A report submitted on Wednesday by a committee of professors of IIT-Kharagpur revealed that the flyover that had collapsed in Kolkata, killing at least 26 people, had a faulty design, The Indian Express reported.
The report said that other than a faulty design, the Vivekananda flyover in the Girish Park neighbourhood of Kolkata, lacked proper construction material and was a wrongful project execution of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
The committee which consisted of Civil engineering and Structural engineering professors, was formed by the West Bengal state government to probe into the reasons behind the debacle.
The government also asked the committee to file a report on the stability of the remaining portion of the flyover.
Engineering consultancy company, RITES have also been asked to examine and report on the condition of all the flyovers, bridges and rail bridges in the state.
The West Bengal police lodged a case against ten officials of IVRCL, the construction firm responsible for the construction of the flyover, along with the Chief engineer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Department.
