A 26-year-old fashion designer was allegedly attacked with a knife by her former driver, in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, on Sunday. The victim is currently in the hospital and her condition is critical.
Police said that the woman was attacked in a parking lot in Shivalik apartments. By the time the police team reached the spot, the victim, Kaverli Lal, had been taken to Max Hospital in Saket. The victim’s mother, Rekha, told the police that their former driver, Anil, rang their doorbell at 1:30pm on Sunday.
Anil told her he had been employed as a driver in the neighbourhood. He asked the mother-daughter duo to remove their car, which was in the way of his new employer’s vehicle. Anil allegedly attacked Kaveri when she took the wheel, after offering to park the car.
He tried to slit her throat, but two students passing by raised an alarm.
The accused fled from the spot and Kaveri was rushed to the hospital. A senior police official said that the accused was employed as a driver with the victim’s family around a year ago and had been sacked because of his unruly behaviour.
Police have launched a manhunt for the accused and are questioning other drivers in the area about him. The victim is unfit to register a statement. CCTV footage has been recovered from the area.
