The Quint has been able to ascertain that some aspects of the Sheena Bora murder case may have served as red-herrings, or distractions to the police investigation, while the real motive lay undiscovered.
Once the case took on a life of its own – following the arrest of Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyamwar Rai, Indrani and Sanjeev Khanna – the police discovered that at least two red-herrings – that Sheena was sitting on a huge amount of money parked in a bank account in her name and which she refused to part with, and her purported engagement with Peter Mukerjea’s son Rahul – were brought into play to distract investigators from pursuing the real motive.
In the days following the initial arrests, there was much reporting around the fact that Rahul, who is Peter Mukerjea’s son from a previous marriage, and Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter, Sheena, her daughter through a previous relationship, had a relationship.
Indeed, the incest-like relationship between two people who were step siblings, dominated the initial investigation.
But now, sources close to the investigation team say that the Rahul-Sheena relationship was made into more than it was, and that perhaps the duo was never really engaged.
Readers might recall that much was made of the fact that Rahul did not seem to take too many concerted steps to investigate Sheena’s disappearance beyond filing a missing person’s report, and that there were whispers of Sheena’s murder being an ‘honour killing’.
This fresh information now makes it clear that the Rahul-Sheena angle to the investigation was an elaborate red herring and the police have now veered round to the theory that the real motive, as The Quint has just reported, was that Indrani was incensed by a relationship between a person “very close to her” and Sheena.
