Three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district early on 7 August, police said.
“The encounter took place in Pampore town’s Sambora area. One victim has been identified as Umer from LeT’s Abu Ismail faction,” police officials said. “One AK-47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site.”
The encounter began after security men suspected the presence of the LeT militants in the area.
Police has confirmed the Abu Ismail group's involvement in the 10 July attack on an Amarnath Yatra bus in which eight pilgrims were killed.
Attacks on Army in Kashmir
On the night of 7 August, militants also fired upon an army patrol in Pulwama’s Drabgam. The fire was retaliated by the forces of the army's 44 RR patrolling party, and there were no injuries on either side, the SSP told Greater Kashmir.
In a separate incident in North Kashmir on the same day, an army jawan was injured in sniper firing between the Indian and Pakistan armies along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri. He was later airlifted to Srinagar for treatment, reported Greater Kashmir.
