Eleven Students Arrested in Osmania University Over Beef Festival

Arrested students in OU Beef Festival were charged with creating public nuisance, and disturbing communal harmony.

Eleven students, who were found guilty of violating High Court orders on the conduct of a Beef Festival were arrested by the Osmania Universtiy police, on Thursday.

According to OU Police Inspector Ashok Reddy, the students were charged with creating public nuisance, violating court and police orders and attempting to disturb communal harmony.

The organisers of the festival were not among the arrested. The police were successful in preventing the students from openly conducting the festival in the Osmania University Campus. Police had sealed off entrances to the NRS hostel, disallowing any student to enter the hostel premises limiting the festival within the hostel. The orgainsers had cooked beef inside the NRS Hostel and posted photos on social media networks.
