The Delhi University president of the All India Students Association (AISA) Kawalpreet Kaur and three of her friends were allegedly beaten up by goons late Saturday (18 August) night in North Campus’s Vijaynagar area.
According to a Facebook post published by Kaur, she and three others – Ankit, Jatin and Rishabh – were beaten up by a mob of 7-8 goons, who also allegedly brandished a gun at them.
The post added that Ankit and Rishabh were badly injured in the altercation and were rushed to the hospital.
Kaur further alleged inaction on the part of the police, who were reportedly “uncooperative” and were attempting to delay the matter.
Kaur, in her post, said that she was first harassed by the goons, who then attacked her and her friends when she resisted their taunts.
While a complaint has been filed at the Model Town police station, Kaur alleged that no action has been taken yet to arrest the goons.
Speaking to The Quint, Kaur said:
We have even filed CCTV footage in our complaint, which clearly identifies the perpetrators. But the police is instead telling me that I should not have ventured out at that time of the night. What sort of an answer is that?
Based on help from the locals and CCTV footage which was procured from a nearby shop, two people from the mob were identified as Monu and Priyanshu Mishra.
Questioning safety in North Campus and its adjoining areas, Kaur has called for a show of solidarity against hooliganism.
We will protest against hooliganism and assure the arrest of these goons. Campus areas have no place for them.
Kaur has warned of a protest on Sunday, 19 August, if Delhi Police fails to act upon the complaint and arrest the named goons by noon.
At the time of speaking to The Quint, Kaur was in the process of filing an FIR.
