We may rarely hear about women farmers in stories of agrarian crises or farmer suicides in India, but the reality is women farmers are the backbone of agriculture in India.

Infamous for droughts and farmer suicides, north Karnataka’s terrains are one of the most difficult to cultivate. For the women cultivators in the area, demonetisation has come as the final blow. Barren lands, drought, farmer suicides & demonetisation have become the ingredients for a cocktail of crises for women farmers in northern Karnataka.

The Quint’s Parul Agrawal visits remote districts like Bidar in northern Karnataka to speak to the unknown and report the unsaid post demonetisation.
