Ramesh Gowda, a driver working for a Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday and accused Karnataka mining baron G Janardhan Reddy and the officer of harassing him in his suicide note, News18 reported.
The deceased, who worked for special land acquisition officer (Bengaluru) Bheema Nayak, is said to have died after consuming poison.
In his suicide note, Gowda claimed that he knew about the means by which Janardhan Reddy laundered Rs 100 crore of black money, the report added. the note also alleged that Nayak received a 20 percent cut for helping Reddy launder the money.
Reddy made headlines a few weeks ago for the Rs 500-crore wedding he hosted for his daughter. The lavish event drew massive flak, coming as it did at at a time when the country was reeling under a currency crunch.
Gowda’s suicide note also says that Reddy, along with BJP MP B Sriramulu, recently met Nayak a couple of times in a hotel in Bengaluru.
Nayak, the note said, wanted Reddy to help him get a ticket for the 2018 Karnataka state elections. A case has been booked against Bheema Nayak and his other driver Mohammed.
After Reddy’s daughter’s wedding made the headlines, the Income Tax Department had raided his house in Bellary and sought his income details.
