Today marks former Indian President – APJ Abdul Kalam’s – 88th birth anniversary. Recognised as one of the visionary leaders of the country, Dr Kalam is referred to as the ‘Missle Man’ of India due to his contribution to science and the Indian Space programme. The former President was awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the former President of India on his birth anniversary.
Padma Shri awardee and world-renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik paid tribute to the “people’s president” with an installation.
The United Nations has declared 15 October, his birthday, as World Students Day for his contribution towards education.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “He was a real teacher & loved students & even died while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong.”
Remembering Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote, “His humble origins and life of compassion for the disadvantaged continue to inspire every Indian.”
