If you are a resident of East Delhi, you certainly have walked through the now-famous heap of garbage. For others, the politicians in Delhi are now active enough to bring it in lime-light.

It took a 12-days long strike by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi-appointed cleaners and a protest by the residents for the politicians to take notice.

BJP leader Satish Upadhyay also showed up in Akshardham area.

Garbage Issue

At the heart of the issue lies the non-payment of salaries of the MCD workers, appointed to clean the streets, by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The funds by the centre to the MCD were unaccounted for, according to BJP leader Sambit Patra, pushing the blame on the Delhi government.

But AAP leader, Ashish Khetan, had another question for the centre that shed light on the bankruptcy of MCD.

The political tug-of-war between the centre and the Delhi government may not have done much for a lot of people walking through the garbage on the streets but it had let to a strike, which was recently called off, by the MCD workers.

Congress’ Rahul Gandhi was on the fore-front, pointing out the non-payment of MCD workers’ salaries. Why was he not questioning the non-payment before the cleaners went on strike, would be the question to ask.

One cannot expect these workers to work without a salary, can one?

The people do not seem very convinced though.
