Man Found Hanging in Delhi Police Custody, Family Alleges Murder

The deceased’s family alleged that it was murder and demanded a fair investigation into the matter.

On Tuesday, 16 January, at around 10am, 22-year-old Deepak was allegedly found hanging from the ceiling in Karawal Nagar police station. He was immediately taken to GTB hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Deepak had been arrested on Monday for allegedly harassing a minor near his residence and was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, reports ANI.

Apart from this case he also had four pending cases related to harassment in 2017 and had been on the run before his arrest on 15 January.

The police said it is a case of suicide, however the deceased's family alleged that it was murder. The family has demanded a fair investigation into the matter, reported ANI.

Meanwhile an inquiry has been started by the Metropolitan Magistrate and the police has suspended 4 police officers, three assistant sub inspectors and one inspector.
