Vikas Shinde, a Mumbai constable was attacked mercilessly by a brother-duo at a petrol pump in Khar, Mumbai. The constable, 51, was on duty on 24 August when he stopped a 16-year-old ridding a bike.

The 16-year-old got into an argument with Shinde; he called his brother, a 21-year-old, and assaulted the constable with him.

The constable was severely injured and was taken to the intensive care unit of the Lilavati Hospital.

After nine days of battling death, Shinde succumbed to his injuries.

This is not the only attack on Mumbai cops in the past several months. Eight attacks (five in Mumbai alone) were recorded in Maharashtra in a week.

The attacks that are being termed as ‘unrelated’ attacks by senior police officials, seem to forebode a pattern.

Merely twelve days after the sad demise, Shinde’s mother died of grief.
