1. Girl Kills Mother After She Opposes Her Lesbian Relationship With Teacher

A woman was brutally beaten to death at Delhi's Kavi Nagar area after she objected to her daughter's same-sex relationship with her teacher. 21-year-old Rashmi Rana and her partner Nisha Gautama attacked the woman with an iron rod leading to severe head injuries.

The girl's father Satish Kumar had filed an FIR at Kavi Nagar police station on 9 March against his daughter and the teacher. He had accused them of battering his wife, Pushpa Devi, with an iron rod which later caused her death.

The police had since been on a lookout for the accused.

The duo was arrested on Tuesday, 3 April, from Ghaziabad Railway Station. The 21-year-old confessed to the crime after being interrogated by the police.

2. Kanpur Varsity Student Found Hanging; Father Says She Was Harassed, Ignored

A 19-year-old student of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University in Kanpur committed suicide on Monday after university authorities and the police allegedly did not act on her sexual harassment complaint. The woman was found hanging inside her house at around 11 am. No suicide note was found, said police.

A case has been lodged against the two university students, her department head and the police investigating officer, for abetment of suicide. The investigating officer, also in-charge of the police outpost at the university, has been suspended, while the Kalyanpur police station house officer (SHO) was removed for not initiating action into the complaint. No arrests have been made so far.

3. Throwing Stone at Stray Dog Proves Fatal for Man, Stabbed to Death

Throwing a stone at a stray dog proved fatal for a 26-year-old man, who was allegedly stabbed in the ensuing scuffle that led to his death on Monday night near the Indian Oil petrol pump in Sector 46 of Gurgaon.

Immediately after the incident, the victim, identified as Vinod Yadav, was taken to civil hospital by his friend, where doctors declared him brought dead. A case of murder was registered against two persons at Sadar police station.

The accused have been identified as Bholu and Chetan, both residents of Jharsa village near Sector 39. The police said that both the accused were still at large and raids were being conducted to arrest them.

4. Inmate Death in Mumbai Jail: No Discharge for 6 Jail Staff

A sessions court on Tuesday rejected the discharge plea of six jail staffers booked for the murder of inmate Manjula Shetye in Byculla jail

The six accused – jailer Manisha Pokharkar, and constables Bindu Naikade, Waseema Shaikh, Shital Shegaonkar, Surekha Gulve and Aarti Shingne – had moved sessions for discharge on a technical ground of delay in granting sanction by the government to prosecute them.

As per the rule, to prosecute any government official, the investigating agency has to obtain a sanction from the government.

5. Woman Sentenced to 10 Years in Jail for Importing, Buying, Selling Minors From Bangladesh

An Alipore court on Monday sentenced a woman to a maximum imprisonment of 10 years for her involvement in importing, buying and selling two minors from Bangladesh.

The additional district and sessions judge declared Hasnara Begum, 52, guilty under IPC Sections 366A (procuration of minor girl), 366B (importation of girl from foreign country), 372 (selling minor for purpose of prostitution), 373 (buying minor for purpose of prostitution) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

The judge also slapped a Rs 1 lakh fine on the accused and recommended that the District Legal Services Authority compensate the girls.

6. UP: Probe 'Debunks' Rape, Woman Tries to Kill Self Outside CM Home

A 32-year-old Barabanki woman tried to immolate herself near the chief minister’s residence in Lucknow on Monday alleging that the police slapped “weaker” charges against those people who allegedly raped her.

Police, however, said their previous investigation based on which they had slapped the charge had revealed that she had not been raped and instead filed a fake case over a monetary dispute. Since the self-immolation attempt, however, SP (Barabanki) has been asked to review the matter.

7. Three Try to Extort Rs 1.5 Crore From Builder Over Rs 8.5 Crore Flat Row

An NRI , who allegedly gave a contract of recovering money from a developer to three men, has come under the police scanner.

The NRI businessman, Rupin Banker, was keen to recover Rs 7 crore from a builder and contacted three men, Athar Ahmad alias Attar Dubai (33), Ashfaq Khan Mir (36) and Mohammed Iqbal Ahmed (31).

The three told the builder to come to a hotel in Bandra and demanded that he pay them Rs 1.5 crore. During the investigation, it transpired that the builder had in 2011 started constructing a tower at Prabhadevi. Banker booked a 1,400 sq ft flat worth Rs 8.5 crore and paid Rs 7.23 crore to the builder. Legal wrangles delayed the project.

8. FIR Filed Against Bookie for 'Spiking' Woman's Cold Coffee, 'Molesting' Her

A cricket bookie, who was once married to a Bollywood actor’s sister, has been booked for allegedly spiking an air-hostess’ cold coffee, touching her inappropriately after she fell unconscious, undressing her, clicking her pictures and threatening to post them online.

On Saturday, Santacruz police registered an FIR against the bookie (40) who was arrested in a betting case last year.

While denying the allegations against him, the accused told TOI that he had intimated Bandra police in advance that the woman was likely to file a “false case” against him.

9. Mumbai: 75-Year-Old Found Dead in Tilak Nagar, Wife Arrested

The Tilak Nagar police on Tuesday arrested a 65-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her 75-year-old husband by smashing his head with a paver block at their residence. According to the police, Dhanudevi was frustrated with her husband Chotelal Maurya’s extra-marital relationships and the constant harassment she allegedly faced at his hands.

The police had earlier registered a case of murder against unidentified persons after Maurya’s body was found at his home on Sunday afternoon.
