A Dalit girl was allegedly prevented by a security guard from entering the toilet in Women's College of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), a News18 report said on Thursday, 11 July.

The student has reportedly lodged her protest over the incident with the college Principal, the Vice Chancellor and Chief Proctor.

In a letter addressed to them, the girl mentioned that she is a student at the Arts Faculty of BHU Women's College.

As per the report, she stated that on Thursday noon, she was sitting at the help desk set up outside the college gate and as she went inside the college to use the toilet, she was reportedly stopped by a security guard deployed there.

Describing the guards's "discriminatory behaviour", the girl alleged that he did not allow her to use the washroom even though she had introduced herself as a BHU student.

Several students from the college have expressed anger over the incident.
