The Dalit community plans to take their Una agitation to other states. The agitation took root after cow vigilantes were reported to be flogging four Dalit men in Gujarat.

The next destination of the protests may be the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, reports The Times of India.

The ‘grand rally’ will be held just before the winter session of the Parliament which starts in November.

By Dalits, we mean not only the caste-community but all those who are downtrodden; the marginalised people in the larger sense.

On the other hand, in a bid to combat Dalit alienation from the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is expected to have lunch at Rajendar Singh’s house on 24 August during his four-day stay (20-24 August) in Agra, reports The Hindu. Singh is a Dalit who owns a shoe factory in Agra and is an old RSS loyalist.

Meanwhile, Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of BR Ambedkar and a political activist, used strong words for the BJP and RSS. He said BJP stands for caste hegemony while the RSS is repository of anti-parliamentary democracy. He also said that Gujarat has become the centre for agitation because of its growing fascist stature.

Ambedkar is slated to organise a rally on 12 September on these issues.
