Two CRPF personnel were killed during an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and another trooper later succumbed to injuries on Friday, 28 June.
The gun-battle took place at around 11 am, close to a culvert near Keshkutul village, when a team of the CRPF's 199th battalion was out on an area domination operation on motorcycles, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Divyang Patel told news agency PTI.
The police also confirmed that a girl lost her life in the crossfire and another girl was injured.
The two martyred CRPF personnel have been identified as Assistant Sub-inspector Madhu Patil and Head Constable Taju Oti.
The identity of the third trooper is yet to be ascertained.
The police further told PTI that during a search at the encounter spot, two pressure improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered.
According to another police official, Naxals looted an AK-47 rifle, its four magazines, one bulletproof jacket and one wireless set of security forces during the encounter.
