1. Man Rapes, Tries to Burn Alive 17-Yr-Old Girl in Gurugram

The police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of marriage and trying to burn her alive in Sector 56.

The police said that she sustained minor burn injuries and was currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Her condition was reported to be stable, the police said on Thursday, 12 December.

The arrested man was identified as Masadul Shaikh, from West Bengal. The police said that a team of officials from crime branch Sector 31 arrested him from his home town on Wednesday after receiving a tip-off.

2. 12 Bomb Calls to Etihad Office Keep Security Agencies on Toes

At least 12 back-to-back phone calls about a bomb received within half an hour at the Etihad Airways office at Delhi airport kept security agencies on their toes for more than two hours on Monday.

The caller said there was a bomb under a seat of one of the airline’s planes to Delhi. In his 12th call, police said, the man asked officials which police are coming to arrest him – Dubai police or Delhi police.

Delhi Police approached telecom service providers to get details of the number from which the calls were made.

3. 23-Yr-Old Woman Dragged on Road for Resisting Snatchers in East Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar

A 23-year-old woman sustained injuries to her face and her limbs after she was dragged on the road in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar by three motorcycle-borne snatchers for refusing to let go of her mobile phone on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite being dragged for several feet, the woman, who works as a beautician, managed to raise the alarm after which some motorcycle riders chased and nabbed the three men.

4. Two Cops Suspended for Demanding Bribe

A day after three policemen were suspended for allegedly kidnapping an official from the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for ransom, two other police officers have been suspended for extorting money from two people in Dwarka’s Mohan Garden. Disciplinary action will be taken against a third officer who had initially interrogated the two victims.

Police said that the incident happened in the last week of November. Constable Harish allegedly approached two men in a car on Najafgarh road, claiming to be working with the Narcotics Cell. The accused took Rs 9,000 from the men’s wallets, claiming they had drugs in their car even though they were clean. The accused then called two other police officers identified as constable Ram Avtar and head constable Mohan Lal. The men alleged that the policemen threatened and interrogated them illegally and demanded Rs 30,000 from them. They had to call a relative who was in the Delhi Police who intervened to let them off.

5. Most-Wanted Maoist Dead, Confirms Top Cop of Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh police chief D M Awasthi on Thursday confirmed that “most wanted” Maoist Ravula Srinivas alias Ramanna — a member of CPI(Maoist) central committee and secretary of Dandkarenya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) — had died of heart attack a few days back.

“Yes. Our sources from the forests have confirmed that the ‘senior Maoist’ cremated over the weekend (near Pamed in Bijapur, south Bastar) was indeed Ramanna. This is a big blow to CPI (Maoist), since he was the top Maoist in Chhattisgarh and had recruited many locals into the outfit,” Awasthi told TOIon the phone.

6. Eight minors escape from correctional home in Bhopal

Eight juveniles in conflict with law escaped from a correctional home here after breaking a window of their room on Thursday, the police said.

Those who escaped were aged between 13 and 17, said inspector Virendra Chauhan of Jehangirabad police station.

They were being tried for offences such as thefts and fights.

7. Man Arrested After Daughter Accuses Him of Rape

The police in Maharashtra's Jalna district has arrested a man for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter.

The girl had alleged that her father raped her repeatedly. She had also staged a protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai seeking justice.

She had confided in mother and twoaunts about her plight, but they asked her to keep her mouth shut and not to tarnish the family's reputation, she said.

Further, local journalist made sexual advances towards her on the pretext of helping her, she claimed.

8. Man Held in Kerala for 'Sexually Assaulting' Step Daughter

A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his eight-year-old step daughter in a village near Ponkunnam in the district, police said on Thursday.

A case was registered against the mother of the child for not informing police about the assault even after coming to know about it.

The issue came to light when the girl studying in third standard shared her ordeal with her friends.

9. 3 Held for Snatching Mobile Phone in Northeast Delhi

Three men were arrested for allegedly snatching the mobile phone of a 22-year-old woman in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar area, police said on Thursday.

Sahil (23), Faizan (22) and Tauhid (22) targeted the victim, who works at a salon, around 3 PM, a senior police officer said.

As the woman cried for help, locals caught the accused and later handed them over to police, the officer said.
