1. 23-Year-Old Held for Torching a Dozen Vehicles

A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fire incident in Madangir and nearby localities, where more than a dozen vehicles were set alight two nights ago.

The accused, Vijay Shukla, is a resident of Madangir. DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said Shukla was caught with a country-made pistol and matchboxes in his pocket by a patrolling team near Ambedkar Nagar.

Shukla was identified as the prime suspect after a CCTV footage showed him setting a motorcycle on fire in Madangir village. In the footage, he was seen taking out the petrol from the tube connected to the fuel tank and sprinkling it on the motorcycle before lighting a matchstick.

Investigating officers said that Shukla was a drug addict and on the night of the incident, he was allegedly in an inebriated state. Shukla told cops that he set the vehicles on fire under the influence of drugs and wasn’t aware of what he was doing.

2. Tiff Over Diwali Gambling Takes Ugly Turn, 1 Dead

A 37-year-old man died after being shot at by a neighbour following an argument over gambling during Diwali celebrations in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh.

The accused, identified as Ram alias Ravi, and a few others decided to take Harish Sharma, a resident of a JJ colony in Madipur, to hospital, but as he died midway, they got scared and fled after dumping the body near a police station outside a hospital. Seven of them have been arrested.

3. Two Walled City Brothers Kidnap Businessman for Rs 26L

Two broke brothers abducted a businessman for ransom and held him hostage for two days at a house in the Walled City. This businessman had come to meet them thinking they were affluent businessmen like him.

Malaya Ranjan Behera told the police that he had heard that Azim Khan and Kamran Khan were well-to-do businessmen from Chandni Chowk. The Khans introduced themselves as businessmen having crores of money to invest. Behera was impressed by the duo and asked them to invest Rs 200 crore in his friend’s building project in Mumbai.

The Khan brothers asked Behera to meet them at Connaught Place on Monday. When he went there, he was abducted. Later that evening, the family received a ransom demand of Rs 3 crore from the brothers on phone. After some bargaining, they settled for Rs 26 lakh.

4. Woman Gangraped in Jharkhand, Dies After Stick Inserted in Private Parts

A woman died after she was allegedly raped by three men, including her former husband, and a stick was inserted in her private parts in Jamtara district of Jharkhand, police said Thursday.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer BN Singh said the woman's ex-husband has been arrested and a search is on to arrest the two others.

According to police, the woman had gone to watch a play at a theatre on Kali puja on Wednesday night. Her former husband and two of his associates forcibly took her to a field in the village under Narayanpur police station area.

5.Heroin Worth Rs 250 Crore Found in Apple Boxes in Delhi-Bound Truck

The Narcotics Control Bureau has seized more than 50 kg heroin on the outskirts of Jammu city from apple boxes in a fruit-laden truck which was headed to Delhi from Kashmir.

The seizure, the third biggest narcotics haul across India this year, was made at Ban Toll Plaza along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Nagrota on Monday, sources said.

A resident of Kupwara district has been arrested, the sources said, adding that they were informed about an apple-laden truck leaving Kashmir with the contraband. The bureau located the truck near Udhampur and followed it, they said, adding that NCB officials intercepted the vehicle at the toll plaza near Nagrota.

6. Meghalaya Activist Injured in Attack By Suspected Coal Mafia

Meghalaya rights activist Agnes Kharshiing suffered injuries after she was allegedly attacked by a group of people suspected to be belonging to the coal mining mafia in East Jaintia Hills district on Thursday, police said.

The activist and her companion had reportedly gone to capture photographs of illegal coal mining in the district and were stopped by the miscreants on their way back, a senior police officer said.

7. Property Dealer, Friend Held on Rape Charges

A 52-year-old property dealer and his friend were arrested for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman at a house in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar on Wednesday. Police said the property dealer had offered the woman a job and called her to his office for an interview.

The property dealer is from Noida and runs his real estate business in partnership with his 58-year-old friend from their office in Anand Vihar, said the police.

“We have arrested the two men after a case was registered on the basis of the woman’s complaint,” said Meghna Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara). The woman, a mother of two children, is a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

8. 19-Year-Old Stabbed to Death by Friend After Argument

A 19-year-old man was stabbed to death on Thursday morning, allegedly by his friend, following an altercation that began when the man refused to take his friend for shopping on his scooter and verbally abused him, police said.

The accused, identified as Yogesh, was arrested and the knife he used to kill Dipak alias Balli was recovered. Police said the altercation took place on Wednesday evening when Dipak turned down Yogesh’s request to take him to Tibetan market near Kashmere Gate on his scooter for purchasing clothes.

9. Four-Year-Old Raped, Neighbour Arrested

A four-year-old child was sexually assaulted by her neighbour in west Delhi’s Madipur on Thursday evening. Police said that the child was taken to a hospital for medical examination even as the accused youth was arrested. A case of rape and charges under POCSO Act has been registered against the 22-year-old accused. Police said the accused lured the child to his house on some pretext and assaulted her. He then fled leaving her. The girl’s mother saw her coming out of the youth’s room, crying in pain.
