In a development in the actor assault case, the Magistrate Court in Angamaly rejected Malayalam actor Dileep’s plea to access the visuals of the assault on Wednesday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case handed over six CCTV visuals on Monday of the woman actor's car being driven from Thrissur to Kochi, which is when the crime is said to have happened. The trial in the case has been shifted to District Sessions Court.

The decision of the Angamaly Magistrate Court comes after Dileep moved court with a petition, asking for all evidence, including the assault visuals, to be handed over to him. The decision on the plea to access the visuals was pending. The court had postponed it to Wednesday.

Dileep moved court in January. His argument was that a woman’s voice could be heard in the assault visuals, and that the SIT did not probe whose voice it was.

The prosecution then argued against allowing Dileep, an accused, access to the assault visuals.

The police also insisted that the visuals shall not be given to Dileep as he was an influential person who could use the visuals to defame the survivor and therefore, shouldn't get access to them.

The SIT has also handed over statements of the first accused Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni. Apart from this, two forensic reports of mobile phones of the second and fourth accused have also been handed over to Dileep, apart from 187 documents related to evidence collection.

Dileep is the eighth accused in the case pertaining to the abduction and assault of an actor in a moving car in February 2017. Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the case, told the media that only those who are rich will escape punishment.
