After two policemen were shot dead on 17 July in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district as unidentified assailants opened fire at a jail van and fled with three undertrial prisoners, four police personnel were suspended in the case on Friday, 19 July.

“Four police personnel, including Sub-inspector Chetram, have been suspended for laxity in discharging duty in the escape of three undertrials and the killing of two police personnel.”
Sambhal Yamuna Prasad, Superintendent of Police

He added that the others who have been suspended are Head Constable Khoob Singh, driver of police van Indramani Tiwari and another policeman.

The incident took place near Banither village of the district when a police van was returning with 24 undertrials prisoners to Moradabad after hearings in a Chandausi court, Additional DG (Law and Order) PV Ramashastri told PTI.

UP DGP OP Singh announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh each on information leading to the arrest of the three criminals who had fled after killing the constables, the ADG (Law and Order), PV Rama Shastri said.

UP CM Expressed Condolences

The CM also directed to give government service for one dependent and extraordinary pension to the wife of the deceased, ANI reported.

Another Major Shootout in UP Leaves 9 Dead

The incident in Sambhal coincided with another gruesome attack in the state where at least nine people lost lives.

In UP's Sonbhadra district, a village head and his supporters on Wednesday allegedly opened fire on a rival group over a land dispute – killing nine people, including three women – and leaving 19 injured.

The police told PTI that two have been arrested and search for the village head is underway.
