An FIR has been lodged against a National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) district president for allegedly threatening a female student after she complained of molestation.
A video circulating online purportedly showed Congress’ student wing leader Irfan Hussain, district president of Shahjahanpur, telling a woman to “stay in her limits,” news agency ANI reported.
He reportedly said,
“You are just in the first year now, you have to stay here for three more years, you must reform yourself (sudhar jao). I will make it very difficult for you to enter the college main gate. Act like a woman, stay in your limits.”
According to ANI, Hussain also told the girl that a woman only looks good if she stays within her limits.
NSUI has suspended Hussain from the organisation and forbidden him from participating in any activities related to the student wing.
Vishal Chaudhary, NSUI National Secretary who is also in-charge of UP West, dismissed Hussain from his official post.
Hussain has been absconding since the incident came to light, Shahjahanpur Police. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shahjahanpur, D Tripathi told ANI:
“An incident of molestation has come to notice at GF College. FIR has been registered and attempts to arrest the accused are underway.”
