Gujarat Assembly joins the list of states which have ratified the Constitution (122nd) Amendment Bill to ensure implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Tuesday.
This came after the Assembly Speaker suspended 50 of the 56 Congress MLAs following the ruckus that was created on Monday over the Dalit atrocities in Una.
The two-day monsoon session in Gujarat began on Monday which was called to clear the Goods and Services Tax Bill. The opposition party came with banners and shouted slogans in front of the speaker. They also threw bangles as a sign of protest that made the speaker to suspend them.
The Congress lawmakers were demanding an inquiry in the incident where four Dalits were beaten by ‘Gau rakshaks’ in Una on 11 July.
The MPs later marched out of the assembly building shouting slogans and wearing banners inciting people to join what they called a “Jan Akrosh”, or public anger, rally organized by the party in Gujarat.
Gujarat became the sixth state of ratify the bill. The government needs at least half the states to ratify the GST bill before the council introduces the actual Bill in the Parliament.
