A Senior Civil judge, on Friday, 8 December granted bail to a 56-year-old army colonel who was arrested in November for allegedly raping the 21-year-old daughter of a junior colleague posted at the Army Training Command in Shimla.
The accused colonel was arrested on 22 November following preliminary investigations, after the woman filed an FIR against him, police said.
On November 27, he was sent to judicial remand, which ended on Friday, 8 December.
According to The Times of India report, a friend of the officer, who was also present at the spot where the crime took place, was not arrested.
Superintendent of Police Soumya Sambasivan confirmed the registration of the FIR, on 20 November, and the arrest of the colonel, but refused to disclose his identity.
It reported that the survivor mentioned in her complaint that the accused had invited her and her father to attend a programme at Shimla’s Gaiety Theatre, after which the colonel took them out for dinner and advised her to shift to Mumbai with his daughter to make a career in modelling.
It further said that the accused had asked the survivor to send him her modelling portfolio, and on receiving them, invited her to his place to meet professionals. According to the report, when she went to his house, she was forced into a room, intoxicated and raped.
The survivor alleged that the accused officer threatened to ruin her father's career if she exposed the crime.
