Two start-ups, incubated in the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, have come together to create one lakh candidates who will be experts in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Two start-ups, incubated in the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, have come together to create one lakh candidates who will be experts in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) by 2020. One Fourth Labs, a start-up founded by the Institute faculty, has been offering AI and DL advanced courses for ₹1,000.

GUVI, which trains students in tier 2 and 3 cities to learn programming in regional languages, will collaborate with One Fourth Labs to reach out to a wider student group. So far, it has upskilled more than 1.5 lakh engineers in latest technology skills.

Actor Vishal surrendered before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-II (ACMM-II) at the Egmore Court, after the Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued against him by the court, expired on Wednesday. The case pertains to the Income Tax Department filing a petition over the non-payment of TDS by the actor's production firm Vishal Film Factory.

The actor arrived at the court at around 10 am with a team of advocates and filed a petition to recall the warrant. The judge S Malarmathi, after accepting the petition, made the actor wait inside the court hall till 12.45 pm for his petition to be heard.

3. Chennai Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering 4 Women, Necrophilia

A Mahila Court on Tuesday sentenced 38-year-old Chennai man Chinnaraj to undergo life imprisonment for killing four women, including a minor, and having sexual intercourse with their bodies. When the crime came to light in 2016, it was discovered that he had lived in the same house along with his victims’ decomposing bodies for at least two days.

The neighbours alerted the police when a foul smell began emanating from the house in which Chinnaraj had been living with the corpses. The police learnt upon investigations that Chinnaraj had stabbed them on 20 June 2016 and an FIR was filed for murder and unnatural offences under the IPC. Chinnaraj was reportedly picked up near Marina beach a couple of days later.

4. Two Women Molested on the Marina, Three Nabbed

Two women who went for a walk on the beach opposite PWD headquarters were sexually assaulted by three men on Tuesday night. Beach-goers claim that there is an urgent need to improve lighting on the Marina, especially beyond the Chennai Corporation swimming pool.

On Tuesday night, a 24-year-old woman, an employee of a private firm, and her 20-year-old friend, a college student, had gone to the beach. They took a walk on the sand and were sitting when three men approached them and asked if they knew Hindi. When they replied in the affirmative, the youngsters walked away. Within a few minutes, they returned and molested the two women who cried out for help.

5. Public Fumes as Rodents, Dogs Invade Beef Outlets

It’s not just people or customers who flock beef stalls here. Rats and dogs run riots at these beef stalls in the municipal market here in Coonoor, subjecting consumers to great health risks. Residents want a foolproof mechanism to be in place to grant licenses to run meat stalls in the town.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) wing officials swung into action and inspected beef stalls on Tuesday evening, and temporarily closed down five shops for not measuring to prescribed hygiene standards. They also seized the beef stacked up in these shops and destroyed it.
