The ritual of walking on hot coals to prove one’s devotion to god is not just performed in India. At the Sri Mariamman Temple in Singapore, thousands of Hindu devotees flock to pay their respects by partaking in the annual fire-walking festival. It is usually believed that the goddess will bestow the devotee with what they have wished for if they walk on fire.
