An 18-year-old student on 2 January approached the Bombay High Court, seeking a CBI probe into the 29 December fire tragedy in Kamala Mills compound, reports PTI. The fire allegedly started at a pub called 1 Above and claimed 14 lives.
Garv Sud, a city resident studying in the United Kingdom, also urged the court that the culpable homicide charge under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code be pressed against the owners of Kamala Mills too, the report added.
The petition was filed on 2 January. We will wait for it to come up for hearing once the High Court resumes after the vacation on 4 January.Prakash Wagh, lawyer of Gaurav Sud as reported by PTI
"It is not enough to just book the owners of 1 Above pub for culpable homicide and negligence. The owners of Kamala Mills are equally responsible for the incident. The CBI should be asked to probe the incident," the petition, as reported by, PTI also said.
Recently, two of the pub’s managers – Gibson Lopez and Kevin Bawa – were arrested by the police and produced in front of a local court, which remanded them in police custody till 9 January. The managers had, however, said that the pub was being set up and pointed the finger at the adjoining Mojo’s Bistro instead.
A few days prior to this, the police had arrested Rakesh Saghvi and Aditya Sanghvi, who are related to the pub-owners, for providing shelter to the offenders. They were later released on bail of Rs 25,000 each.
However, the owners of the pub – who are the prime accused – are absconding despite the police’s efforts into sending teams across Maharashtra and even outside the state.
