The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar into three-day custody in connection with rape of a woman in Unnao. The CBI, on 19 May, booked the BJP MLA in a case of criminal conspiracy for falsely implicating the father of the woman he allegedly raped in Unnao. The man died in police custody on 9 April.
Sengar, who is currently lodged in a Sitapur jail, was booked for allegedly kidnapping and raping the woman on the pretext of offering her a job in 2017, when she was a teenager. The case came to light after the victim tried to set herself on fire after the police delayed the filing of the FIR.
The Unnao woman, who accused the BJP MLA and his brothers of raping her in 2017, when she was a teenager, alleged that her father was killed at the behest of Sengar. The 50-year-old patriarch was arrested on 5 April under the Arms Act. On 8 April, he was rushed from the district jail to a hospital, where he succumbed a day later.
The CBI had earlier apprehended Makhi police station officer Ashok Singh Bhadauriya and Senior Inspector Kamata Prasad Singh for allegedly manipulating government records and framing the rape victim's father using the Arms Act.
The call records of the complainant and policemen posted at the police station, where the case was lodged, suggested they were in touch with the MLA on 3 April, the day the case was lodged, The Indian Express reported.
