Having completed 10 months in office, the Narendra Modi government may soon be witness to a rejig, with the PM likely to announce a cabinet reshuffle as well as its expansion.
A senior BJP leader said while the expansion had been discussed and almost finalised, the PM was yet to make the official move.
Other than their performance, there were other factors such as the age of ministers and the role of the BJP’s alliance partners which was also being considered.
Sources stated that keeping in mind the criticality of the Land Acquisition Bill, the PDP and the Shiv Sena were likely to be provided greater representation this time round.
While Najma Heptulla, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, is likely to be appointed as a governor, the government is still weighing the pros and cons of dropping Kalraj Mishra, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, a Brahmin face from Uttar Pradesh.
Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, a Bhumihar face from Uttar Pradesh and an engineer by profession, is also likely to be elevated as a Cabinet minister.
