A woman in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh called off her wedding after her husband-to-be failed to count beyond nine.
The groom could not even distinguish between the numbers 69 and 79. To add to his woes, the bride asked him to dial a number on a phone, which he couldn’t do either.
The woman, who has studied up to class 8, wanted to become a teacher. She refused to marry a man who was ‘illiterate’ and ‘mentally unfit.’
The bride’s father apologised for this slip of decision. He said they did not get adequate time to get to know the groom or his family.
The man eventually married another woman. Though the matter reached the Panchayat, the villagers took pride in the bride’s decision.
