Adding to the row over Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey holding an ‘anti-Brahminical patriarchy’ poster, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari on Wednesday, 21 November, said ‘anti- Brahminism’ is “the reality of Indian politics”.

In a tweet regarding the Dorsey debacle, Tiwari compared the state of Brahmins in India to that of the Jews, stating, “We are the new Jews of India and we should just learn to live with it”.

Tiwari’s statement came days after Dorsey sparked an outrage among Indian Twitter users after a picture of him holding a poster with message "Smash Brahminical patriarchy" went viral.

Following the backlash, Twitter India clarified on the website that it “is not a statement from Twitter or our CEO, but a tangible reflection of our company's efforts to see, hear, and understand all sides of important public conversations that happen on our service around the world”.

Twitter India further added that the poster was a gift from a journalist as it ‘represented empowerment of Dalit women’, and “not a statement from its CEO" attacking any specific institution of the society.

Prior to Twitter India’s apology, several users had accused Dorsey of ‘bigotry’, ‘racism’, being party to ‘hate speech’, while some even went on to say it’s time to ‘dump Twitter’.
