A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was hacked to death on Wednesday in Kerala's Kannur district, police said. The killing comes two days after a CPI(M) activist’s murder in the district by suspected RSS members.

BJP’s Kerala unit has called for a shutdown in the state on Thursday from 6 am to 6 pm to protest the killing of the party worker, identified as Remith.

Remith was killed in front of a petrol pump in Pinarayi village around 10 am, a police officer said.

According to sources, Remith's father was also murdered some years ago.
