With a historic mandate in Tripura, a political masterclass in Nagaland, and impressive gains in Meghalaya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) further tightened its grip in the northeast.
While all three election results were significant, BJP’s performance in Tripura – what Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as “journey from shunya (zero) to shikhar (destiny)” – stood out.
Soon after the announcement of the election results, senior BJP leaders, analysts and journalists flooded Twitter with congratulatory messages. PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah congratulated the party workers in the region, where the saffron party was historically weak.
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted that the victory was a “victory of ideologies.”
Senior journalist Shekhar Gupta shared his take on BJP’s meteoric rise.
While the northeast mandate is being dubbed as a trailer for what to expect in Karnataka elections this year, journalist Rajdeep Sardesai wrote that it was still a “tough call at the moment.”
Here are a few other politicos’ reactions that sum up the election results.
