Delhi police treated BJP MLA OP Sharma to a free vegetarian meal from a Connaught Place restaurant and several cups of coffee before arresting and letting him off within 15 minutes, reports The Telegraph. He was arrested for beating up CPI activist and Kanhaiya Kumar’s supporter, Ameeque Jamei, at the Patiala House court on Monday.
Sharma justified his actions saying he could not tolerate an “anti-national”.
He is a high-profile legislator and that’s why we ordered food from the restaurant. It was just a human gesture. He was not an ordinary person.An officer of Tilak Marg Police station
On Monday, a group of lawyers had assaulted media persons, JNU students and their union leader Kanhaiya Kumar inside the Patiala House court complex before Kanhaiya was to be produced at the court.
Sharma spent nearly eight hours at the police station – from 11 am to 7 pm – where he was made to sit in the chamber of the officer-in-charge.

Deputy commissioner Jatin Narwal visited the police station thrice to ensure “Sharma was well taken care of”. Narwal refused to comment when asked whether Sharma was being given VIP treatment.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also criticised Sharma’s violent act saying;
JNU students’ union leader Kanhaiya, arrested on sedition charges, moved the Supreme Court seeking bail, on Thursday. The court on Friday transferred to the Delhi High Court Kanhaiya’s petition seeking bail and security.
