BJP Leader Javed Ahmad Dar Shot Dead by Terrorists in J&K's Kulgam

The deceased was identified as Javeed Ahmad Dar, serving as the party's constituency president in Kulgam.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot dead by terrorists in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, 17 August, reports said.

The deceased has been identified as Javed Ahmad Dar, who was serving as the party's constituency president of Homeshalibugh in Kulgam.

Dar was shifted to a hospital after terrorists fired upon him at Brazloo-jagir in Kulgam, BJP's media cell head in Kashmir Manzoor Ahmad was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Ahmad said that Dar later died of his injuries.

Hundreds gathered for the slain leader's funeral in Kulgam amid heavy security deployment.

What the Police Said

The police said that Dar was attacked near his house in Brazloo Jageer area of Kulgam.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists barged into the house of a civilian identified as Javid Ahmad Dar (contractor by profession) resident of Brazloo and fired indiscriminately upon him. In this terror incident, he received critical gunshot injuries and died on spot. As claimed by BJP party spokesman deceased person was a BJP worker," the police said in a handout, as quoted by Greater Kashmir.

It further said that a case has been registered and investigation is underway for the "terror crime".

Parties and political leaders, including the BJP, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and PDP's Mehbooba Mufti, condemned the incident.

This comes just days after BJP Kulgam Kisan Morcha President and his wife were shot dead by suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday, 9 August, IANS reported.

As per sources, the terrorists barged inside the house of sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Dar, and fired indiscriminately, critically injuring him and Jawhara Banoo, his wife.
