Woman Beaten, Paraded Naked After 16-Year-Old’s Death in Bihar

15 people were arrested and eight police personnel suspended, including the Bihiya SHO, police said on 21 August.

Residents of Bihar’s Bihiya town stripped a woman, beat her, and paraded her naked, on suspicions of being involved in the death of a 16-year-old boy in the town on Monday, 20 August, ANI reported.

According to a report in The Times of India, the 16-year-old, named Bimlesh Kumar, had visited the town to seek admission into Class 12, and was found dead near a house the woman lived in, with wounds on his genitals.

Locals set the house on fire & also torched a motorcycle. They stripped a dancer who lived there and paraded her in that condition. 15 people have been arrested. The body of the boy has been sent for postmortem. 8 police & GRP personnel have also been suspended for negligence & insensitivity.

As per an Aaj Tak report, residents of Bihiya also recorded a video of the woman as she was paraded naked through the town.

15 people were arrested in connection with the incident as of 21 August.

Speaking to ANI, the Inspector General of Patna confirmed that eight police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bihiya were suspended on 21 August.

He added that an FIR has been registered against the people responsible for both the stripping and the attacks on shops, promising that action would be taken against those found guilty.

He also said that the woman had been questioned in connection with Bimlesh’s death on 20 August, after which residents, based on suspicions that she was involved in his death, attacked her.

We have a video of 200 people in connection with incidents of violence and 60 in connection with the stripping and thrashing of the woman. We hope to catch the others soon.

Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav took to Twitter to attack the Bihar state government over the incident, asking CM Nitish Kumar to “fix the law and order”.
