Two months ahead of the elections in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore financial package for the state.
In a checkmate of sorts, Prime Minister Modi attacked the Nitish Kumar-led government, outlined the history of financial packages given to Bihar and claimed that the state government did not do much to utilise the help provided in the past.
Modi however made the big announcement of the financial package right away.
I have decided that in your presence, right here from this dais, I will announce a financial package of Rs 1.25 lakh crores for Bihar.
– Narendra Modi, Prime Minister
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to attack Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his DNA jibe.
When I said Bihar is a backward state, CM Nitish Kumar got very angry and contradicted my statement. I would be very happy if that was the case. But then, the Chief Minister constantly keeps demanding packages because the state needs help.
– Narendra Modi, Prime Minister
Previous Packages Were not Utilised
Modi said that so far Bihar has been given two financial packages. One was of 10,000 crores during former PM Vajpayee’s tenure, after Jharkhand was separated from Bihar and the other was of Rs 12,000 crore by the then UPA government.
Modi alleged that the state government has made demands for another special package, while most of the money from the previous packages still remains unused.
Skill Development for the Youth
The Prime Minister also stressed on the importance of skill development for the youth of Bihar. He said that if young people are provided with the right tools, they are capable of building a strong and stable Bihar.
Skill development is going to change the future of the country. Our government does not do anything in bits and pieces. So, we will come up with a comprehensive plan to ensure the overall development of the state.
– Narendra Modi, Prime Minister
Modi also announced that his pet project Make in India has been able to convince investors from across the world. He said that the initiatives of Make in India and skill development complement each other and will be of huge benefits to the young people of India.
Kisaan and Krishi Vikas
Addressing the agrarian crisis, the Prime Minister said that while the produce is crucial, the governments also have the responsibility of the farmers upon them.
Modi said that there are serious concerns about the output from the land but no one cares about the farmer.
Prime Minister Modi announced that under Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, there will be a new initiative to ensure the welfare of krishi and kisaan.
