The Indian Express also added that the bid to transfer Justice Muralidhar was first made in December, but a judge in the Collegium persuaded the CJI to not insist on it. Then, the bid was made once again after the retirement of Justice Lokur.

According to LiveLaw, Justice Sikri and SC Judge from Delhi HC Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul have opposed the proposal.

Justice Muralidhar is known for his strong judgements against communal violence and invasion of civil liberties. He has authored judgements which include convicting the UP PAC in the 1986 Hashimpura mass killing. He also led the bench that convicted the former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in the case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
