1. Two to Exit, 8 new Faces to Join HDK Cabinet Today

The much-awaited expansion and reshuffle of the HD Kumaraswamy Cabinet will take place on Saturday, 23 December, with the Congress top brass giving its nod for dropping two ministers and inducting eight new faces under its quota.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi who chaired a meeting with the party’s state leadership on Friday, 21 December, also approved the appointment of seven legislators as parliamentary secretaries and 20 legislators as chairpersons of boards and corporations. The swearing-in will be held on Saturday, 23 December, at the Raj Bhavan at 5.30 pm.

Rahul also approved the appointment of Jewargi MLA Ajay Singh, son of former chief minister, the late Dharam Singh, as Delhi Representative.

2. Employee Lifestyle Costs $3.5 Billion Loss for Bengaluru’s IT Sector

Poor health and lifestyle habits of employees are costing the nation’s IT capital billions of dollars every year.

In a survey conducted among 500-plus IT employees in Bengaluru across 10 leading tech companies, by research and advisory firm, Redseer Consulting, showed that productivity loss from health and lifestyle habits of employees was worth $3.5 billion (Rs 24,000 crore) to the IT sector in the city every year, which is 7 percent of the total revenue of the sector which is around $50 billion.

The cost to IT sector due to productivity loss has been attributed to five key risk factors — physical inactivity, emotional & mental health, physical health, poor diet and substance abuse.

3. Cops Planted Evidence, Says Temple Manager’s Wife

Ambika, wife of Sulwadi temple manager and an accused in the food poisoning incident that left 16 dead, on Friday, 21 December, accused police of planting evidence in her house in Chamarajanagar to implicate her in the case.

With investigations closing in on her, Ambika demanded that the CBI probe the incident. Ambika, her husband and temple manager Madesha, priest Doddaiah and Salur mutt seer Immadi Mahadeva Swami are accused in the poisoning case.

Police brought Ambika to her house in Sulwadi on Friday, 21 December. While alighting from the stairs of her leased first-floor home, she told the media that a bottle of insecticide was planted at her house in her absence.

4. Ex-Cop Held for Sexually Abusing Adopted Daughter

A retired sub-inspector who worked in the commissionerate was arrested for sexually assaulting his 17-year old adopted daughter for the past three years. The suspect, Anand Kumar (63) a resident of Weavers Colony in Nelamangala Town, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A senior police officer said Kumar had adopted the victim after his daughter died a few years ago.

After the victim turned 13 years, Kumar started sexually abusing her. The former cop used to threaten the girl, saying that he would kick her out of the house if she reveals this to any of the family members or outsiders.
