1. Four Working Chiefs to Get JD(S) Poll-Ready

JD(S) is in for a major revamp of the organisational set-up. While preparations are already on to “relieve” HD Kumaraswamy from the post of state JD(S) president considering his workload as the chief minister, the party leadership is also mulling to appoint four working presidents to get the party battle-ready for the forthcoming polls for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the Lok Sabha.

JD(S) national president HD Deve Gowda is said to have already conveyed his preference to have MLA and senior leader H Vishwanath as the replacement for Kumaraswamy for the state president’s post. However, Vishwanath, who is keen for a ministerial berth, seems to be reluctant to accept the offer.

2. Over 500 De-Boarded After Metro Train Brakes Jam

The brakes of a Metro train got stuck at the RV Road station on Sunday morning forcing officials to stop operations temporarily on one section of Metro’s Green Line. Over 500 passengers were made to alight at the station and their journey was delayed by 20 minutes. As a cascading effect, the trips of the next two trains heading in the direction of the Kempe Gowda Metro station got delayed.

The incident occurred at 11:36 am just as the train was about to depart from RV Road station towards the Jayanagar Metro station, said a senior Metro official.

3. Biz-Friendly Karnataka Logs Big FDI Inflow, Saves ‘Brand India’

‘Brand Karnataka’ appears to have saved ‘Brand India’ from registering a decline in Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in 2017-18.

Karnataka saw a four-fold increase in FDI inflow from $2.1 billion in 2016-17 to $8.5 billion in 2017-18 — a $6.4-billion increase — thanks to big funding flows into IT and startups. The rise in FDI inflow nationally witnessed only a $1.4-billion increase.

4. Doctor, Techie Killed in Separate Accidents

A 27-year-old doctor died on the spot when he crashed his bike into a road median on Airport flyover near Kodigehalli on Sunday. The deceased was dragged for about 200 metres due to the force of the collision.

The deceased, Mohammed Nishaad, a native of Kerala, was residing in Adugodi along with his elder brother. He was working in a private hospital in Hosakote. He had recently bought a Rs 13 lakh, Triumph bike.

A police officer from Hebbal traffic division said that the incident occurred around 6:45 am when Nishaad, along with eight male friends, was going to Nandi Hills.

5. Rowdy Injures Cop, SI Shoots Him in Leg

KP Agrahara police shot at and injured a 26-year-old rowdy-sheeter, allegedly in self-defence, in the early hours of Sunday at Cholurpalya off Magadi Road.

Police said Kiran alias Shashi Kiran alias Kiruba and his associates had barged into the Congress party office in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, Cholurpalya, on the night of 25 July, and vandalised the premises and five vehicles parked outside. Kiran’s intention was to create panic, said cops.

At 2 am on Sunday, a team headed by inspector SS Manju tracked down Kiran near Binni Canteen in KP Agrahara and rushed to nab him. But he attacked constable Nagarajappa with a machete and injured him.

6. Thieves Kill Cow While Attempting to Steal It

The police are on the hunt for unidentified men who killed a cow while attempting to steal it at Bhattarahalli near KR Puram on Friday night.

The animal belonged to Govindaswamy, a farmer, who in his complaint to the police said it had managed to untie itself and strayed into an empty plot of land near his house, approximately 400 metres away.

Later that night, the men who saw the cow unattended, gagged it to prevent it from bellowing and tied its legs before attempting to drag it outside the enclosure. However, the cow got stuck in some barbed wire fencing, sustained injuries while it struggled to escape, and died, according to the police.

7. Car Runs Over Labourer in Electronics City

A 30-year-old labourer was killed after a car knocked him down on BEL flyover in Electronics City on Saturday night.

Police said Sadananda, a resident of Tirupalya, worked as a loader on a mini-goods vehicle. When the vehicle developed a snag at 8:20pm, the driver alighted to check the problem. Sadananda got down after him but a speeding car hit Sadananda, killing him on the spot.
