1. Fresh Tremors Hit Karnataka Coalition Govt as 2 Cong MLAs Resign

Even before the JD(S)-Congress leadership in Karnataka could heave a sigh of relief that dissidence in both camps had been contained and it could focus on governance, two Congress MLAs tendered their resignations on Monday, 1 July.

This sparked speculation that more ruling combine legislators would follow suit ahead of the monsoon session of the legislature.

Vijayanagara (Ballari district) MLA Anand Singh submitted his resignation to speaker KR Ramesh Kumar in the morning. Disgruntled legislator Ramesh Jarkiholi, who represents Gokak in Belagavi, faxed in his resignation in the evening. The speaker’s office said it received Singh’s letter around 2pm. With this, the JD(S)-Congress’ strength is down to 116. In Karnataka’s 224-member assembly, the magic number is 113.
