Milan Sarkar, the main accused in the Ranaghat nun gangrape case in Nadia district, West Bengal, was arrested on Thursday evening near the Sealdah railway station.

According to the police, Milan Sarkar and Ohidul Islam – aka Babu – will be produced in Ranaghat court on Friday.

Sarkar, who is from Bangladesh, was claimed to be the mastermind who had led the eight-member gang that stormed the convent in Ranaghat in the early hours of March 14.

The group was armed and allegedly raped a 71-year-old nun, besides looting Rs 12 lakh from the convent. The nun was a Sister Superior at the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Nadia, West Bengal.

After the incident, she was admitted to a local hospital. She was later discharged and taken to an undisclosed destination.

A study of CCTV footage at the convent had shown four persons, who were allegedly involved in the crime.

The gang broke into the school where four of them raped the nun after gagging her. They also took Rs 12 lakh kept in the almirah locker before fleeing the place.
