Two people were killed and another injured after a massive fire broke out in the ICU ward of SAI hospital, a private hospital in Bareilly, on 15 January, reports ANI. The deceased have been identified Mangla Devi and Rajbala, from Badaun, according to a DNA report. Both patients were admitted in the ICU ward when the blaze broke out.
The DNA report also states that the fire was caused due to a short-circuit.
According to News18, the fire broke out sometime between 2 am and 4 am. By the time one of the staffers noticed the blaze and raised alarm, the fire had spread. According to ABPLive, the fire brigade arrived at 4 am, almost two hours after the blaze broke out.
While the fire brigade attempted to put out the fire, the hospital staff assisted patients in evacuating the floors. According to DNA, the patients have been shifted to district and private hospitals across the city. The situation was brought under control but the fire has laid bare the lack of resources and safety procedures at the hospital, News18 report adds.
According to DNA, the police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem and have registered a case against the hospital owner and staff.
