Jigar, a barber, was allegedly attacked by four upper caste men at Umrecha village in Mehsana district, Gujarat for “cutting the hair of Dalits” at his shop, reported The Indian Express.
The alleged attackers, identified by the barber’s mother, were booked by the Satlasna police on Monday, 25 June. They have been identified as Govind Dhary, Nanji Chaudhary, Rajesh Chaudhary and Vasant Chaudhary, all residents of the same village.
According to The Indian Express, The barber’s mother also claimed that he was given a warning by the accused people about 10 days ago but when he didn’t listen to them, he was beaten up.
Speaking to the daily, the Sub-Inspector Ratilal Makwana said:
The allegation is that Jigar was attacked by the accused just for entertaining Dalits at his shop.
Makwana said that when he spoke to the villagers during investigation, they said that they had not been threatened for visiting the barber’s shop.
