KV Vijayendra Prasad, the writer behind blockbusters such as Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Mersal is now busy scripting an ambitious film on the history and journey of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This news was confirmed to The Quint by a senior leader of the BJP from Maharashtra. Prasad is also the father of SS Rajamouli, the celebrated director of the Baahubali series. However, according to reports, Rajamouli will not be involved in the project.
The film on RSS written by Prasad will explore the origins and achievements of the organisation since its inception and will predictably glorify its founders and senior leaders such as Dr KB Hedgewar, MS Golwalkar, Veer Savarkar, K Sudharshan, Mohan Bhagwat and so on.
The budget for this feature, which will track the evolution of the RSS over nine decades, is reportedly not less than Rs 100 crore, and unconfirmed reports say that it will be funded by the Bharatiya Janata Party. A report by the New Indian Express Group specifically mentions that the film on the Hindu right wing organisation will be jointly produced by Karnataka BJP leader and Lahari Recording Company owner G Tulsiram Naidu (Lahari Velu) and his brother G Manohar Naidu.
Sources add that the plan is to get several A-list Bollywood actors to play prominent characters film, some media outlets have named Akshay Kumar as one of the actors who has been approached to play a part in the film. Originally made in Hindi, this film on the RSS will also be dubbed into Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and so on.
Prasad is said to be presently busy compiling all the information that is available on the RSS and its leaders. The writer will also be personally meeting with several RSS members, state level leaders and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as part of the research for this monumental feature film. A visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and a meeting with BJP president Amit Shah is also reportedly on Prasad’s agenda.
While some sources suggest that the film, which will highlight the struggles and victories of the RSS, is an attempt to counter the Shiv Sena’s biopic on Bal Thackeray (featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui), others say that the RSS film has a much larger agenda keeping in mind the general elections coming up in 2019.
KV Vijayendra Prasad’s has last written the currently under-production Manikarnika, a biopic on the Rani of Jhansi, starring Kangana Ranaut.
