- CBI custody of ex-IAF chief SP Tyagi and two others has been extended by 3 days
- Tyagi was arrested by the CBI on Friday for his alleged involvement in the VVIP chopper deal case
- His cousin Sanjeev Tyagi alias Julie and Delhi-based lawyer Gautam Khaitan were also remanded
- The three were produced in Delhi’s Patiala House court on Wednesday
- The CBI said that it needs time to interrogate Tyagi as they’ve received information from other countries
Court Extends Tyagi’s CBI Custody By Three Days
The court has extended the CBI custody of SP Tyagi and the other two accused by three days. It has also asked the CBI to complete the questioning within three days.
Classified Govt Documents Recovered From Key Middleman, CBI Tells Court
The CBI counsel says in court that classified documents of the Indian government were recovered from Guido Haschke’s mother’s residence in Switzerland. Haschke was named as the key middleman in the AugustaWestland deal.
The court was further informs that some of Tyagi’s foreign investments were not reflected in the income tax returns and that the defence HQ was not informed about them either.
The CBI counsel says that the agency wants to confront Tyagi with replies it received through letters rogatory from other countries.
Tyagi’s Counsel Says CBI Violating SC Guidelines
SP Tyagi's counsel says that the CBI counsel has all the material, but the latter is repeating the details for the media.
Tyagi’s counsel further states that the CBI has violated the rule of law and even the Supreme Court’s guidelines.
While citing High Court rules, the counsel also says that non-completion of police investigation doesn’t justify detention.
Tyagi Abused His Official Position, Says CBI
The CBI, in the Patiala House court, says that Tyagi had abused his official position by meeting a senior official from Agusta at his residence.
The investigative agency also informs the court that custodial interrogation of the accused is imperative as they are in possession of material received from Switzerland, Italy and other nations.
