Ever imagined what a Tamil Nadu politician would look like as a popular animated cartoon? How would they look dancing to pop tunes in their miniature form?

In a series titled Sanions, Chennai-based designer Kravmaga Sreeram has portrayed all the leading politicians of Tamil Nadu as minions, the animated species created by Universal Pictures.

Commissioned by an AIADMK affiliate, the series features DMK Chief M Karunanidhi, DMK Treasurer MK Stalin, DMDK’s Vijayakant and even his wife Premalatha Vijayakant.

The AIADMK affiliate came up with the idea to strike a chord with youngsters and on social media. I had to watch the films and correlate the characters with the politicians.

He went on to add that he had most fun sketching PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss. Not only does minion Anbumani wear a white buttoned-up shirt, he is also accessorised with a microphone. “Anbumani has been imitating Steve Jobs in his campaign speeches this year. Portraying his smiling face, with Job’s body language was challenging, but fun,” says Sreeram. While Anbumani is his favourite, the people’s favourite is Vijayakant, with ‘Captain’ minion getting the maximum likes on Facebook.

The conspicuous absentee from the sanions is Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. “I have no political affiliations. But since this was a commissioned project, I was under some stipulation. I would love to take up the challenge of designing her as a minion. But after elections, perhaps,” concludes the artist.
