The Mumbai local and its stations are a part of every Mumbaikar’s life, even several Bollywood stars who’ve once struggled in the city of dreams have memories of travelling by the city’s local trains.
The stampede at Elphinstone Road station that has resulted in the death of 22 people and injured many more has shocked members of Mumbai’s film industry as well. Anil Kapoor was one of the first actors to tweet out his anger about the tragedy, questioning the mirage of “Development”.
Boman Irani’s brief tweet highlighted the fact that the tragedy was something that the authorities could have avoided if only they they had bothered to address the issue of overcrowding.
Actor Richa Chadha posted a series of angry tweets stating that she would rather be an angry patriot than a fake nationalist.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta rightfully declared that we are all living in a city that’s dying, thanks to our netas.
Other actors like Shraddha Kapoor, Sonam and Sonakshi Sinha too tweeted out their shock at the tragedy.
The rest of Bollywood is hopefully just waking up to the tragedy that’s occurred in their city. Or perhaps they’re too busy to be bothered about it.
