This year marks the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose unfurling the Indian flag at the Gymkhana Ground (now named Netaji stadium) at Port Blair, Andamans.

Bose did it with the help of Japanese forces who were fighting against the British in World War-II (1939-1945). This unfurling of the flag symbolically fulfilled Netaji’s promise of the Indian Army standing on the Indian soil by the end of 1943.

Bose renamed Andaman and Nicobar islands to “Shaheed and Swaraj” islands to declare India’s autonomy.

Netaji who was a devout patriot, gave the famous slogan, “Give me blood and I will give you freedom.”
