After over 60 people were killed by a train in Amritsar on Friday, 19 October, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has called the incident a 'small accident' that 'happens every other day across the country'.
The AAP MLA Khaira said that many people die everyday in road mishaps in Punjab, and that this incident had suddenly become the media’s “focus of attention”.
“As many as 5,000 people die in road accidents in Punjab per year. These small accidents like the one in Amritsar happen every day across the country.”Sukhpal Singh Khaira, AAP MLA, to Times Now
A train coming from Pathankot had ploughed through a crowd that had gathered to witness a burning Ravana effigy near railway tracks in Amritsar.
The crowd had failed to hear or see the incoming train in time, and dozens were run over.
Seven hundred people had gathered there to witness the effigy burning.
