Arvind Swami and Amala Paul-starrer Bhaskar Oru Rascal’s release has been postponed, yet again. The film – which already faced delays due to the long-drawn theatre strike and unavailability of theatres – was to release on 11 May but will now release only next week.

Amidst the befuddlement, The Quint caught up with lead actor Amala Paul and asked her what went into the making of the film, what made it different from others, and all that she missed about Kerala working in Kollywood.

The 26-year-old actor was critically acclaimed for her role in Mynaa, a movie about a woman who escapes an undesired marriage by running away with her childhood love.

Bhaskar Oru Rascal is the story of two children raised by single parents, who want to live like a happy, complete family. They act as match-makers and try to unite their parents. The movie is a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, which starred Mammootty and Nayanthara.

When asked about her role in the film, Amala Paul said, “The movie is a remake, but I have conceived the role in my own way, in the way I see the character. I am very different in the way I look and have changed the characterisation of the role too.”

She also dismissed the misogynistic questions that female actors are often asked.

‘Why did you accept a mother’s role being so young’, ‘aren’t you afraid of being typecast into particular roles?’ – I get so annoyed with questions like these.

“Stop asking us questions about whether we will work after marriage and if we are scared about our position in the male-dominated industry,” she said.

Amala wants to act in movies in every genre possible, but her dream role is “to act in a magnum-opus like how Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films are!”
